About National Charity Powerlifting Championship

In August 2014, Alex Brodie youngest son of  Shane & Amanda Brodie was born. Alex was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called transposition of the greater arteries. This meant that Alex’s heart developed the wrong way. In order to survive Alex had to endure two surgeries, one being open heart surgery. Whilst in Crumlin the Brodies received the best care. On discharge they decided they would like to do something for the hospital.

From this Shane and Amanda ran a fundraiser alongside the 2014 IPO single lifts Championships in the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel Limerick. Competitors and members along with their families supported this fundraising raffle which raised €700 euro which was donated to parents accommodation in Crumlin hospital.

The Brodies along with the IPO committee then decided to start The IPO National Charity Championships back in late 2015. Our first charity partners were Ronald McDonald House and CMRF.

Amanda then became a registered volunteer with Heart Children Ireland and with this the IPO and Heart Children Ireland became charity partners. Throughout the years members volunteers donations and sponsors have played a massive role in all the funds collected and donated on behalf of the IPO.
